So proud of my Spartanburg homies - humble as they may be about their recognition as the Land Planning & Policy Champion (for The Northside Initiative) by Upstate Forever at the Annual ForeverGreen Awards Luncheon this week in Greenville! And the one and only Shelley Robbins, aka Upstate Forever’s Energy and State Policy Director, is a pleasure to work with and now call friend thanks to our environmental connection. To say this woman works tirelessly for the cause would be an embarrassing understatement. This was a very well-executed event with a lot of people in the room who have supported me along my way. I left inspired after hearing the stories and learning about the work of the other award recipients. Upstate South Carolina in the house, y’all! Tammie Hoy Mitch Kennedy

It was a pleasure presenting on Ethics and Compliance & Sustainability to utility professionals as part of EPRI’s recent two-day workshop! After being involved with Upstate Forever in various capacities over the years, I’m excited to now serve as a member of the Board of Directors! Upstate Forever is “a nonprofit conservation organization that protects critical lands, waters, and the unique character of Upstate South Carolina.” Its vision is “an environmentallly healthy, economically prosperous Upstate that offers a high quality of life now and for future generations.” Grateful for the opportunity to work with some of my favorite fellow conservation champions! #UpstateForever #OneSpartanburg #yeahthatGreenville #SustainabilityByStinson

Last week was another fun Friday spent outside an adult work environment - this time in the presence of an energetic and inquisitive group of 2nd graders at Monarch Elementary School! Thank you for the invitation, Talia Waters! Also presenting was Amanda Neal, Esthetician and Owner of Fortified Wellness Studio! We had fun and got some unforgettable questions. Monarch has a diverse student makeup and kind teachers. Beautiful campus and great energy!

Why work when you can go back to school?! It was a welcome switch up to my Monday to leave court early and head out to Woodruff High School to be today’s “Lunch and Learn” speaker for three lunch period sessions. Special thanks to Coach and Career Development Facilitator Tevin Logan for the invite! I walked away with some street cred after a few of the students stuck behind and asked for pictures with me. I love this school! I was there back in February for the 2nd year in a row for their Career Fair. In addition to the students, I enjoyed seeing some of my Woodruff High administrator friends today including Jennifer Mills (pictured) who has worked at the School for over 20 years! She’s full of great stories and laughs. Always a hoot. Always a blessing. #oneSpartanburg #WoodruffHighSchool

After being underwhelmed by the #2024Eclipse playlists I’ve seen circulating, I felt a strong sense of duty to spend time creating one while eating my salad. I tried to avoid the “usual suspects” (ex . “Total Eclipse of the Heart”) that I’ve seen on most other playlists. 1. “Blinded By The Light” -Manfred Mann’s Earth Band2. “Black Hole Sun” -Soundgarden 3. “Talking to the Moon” -Bruno Mars4. “I’ll Follow The Sun” -Beatles5. “I Wear My Sunglasses at Night” -Valiant Thieves6. “Sunshine” -Lil’ Flip7. “Walkin’ on The Sun” -Smash Mouth 8. “Day ‘n’ Nite” -Kid Cudi9. “One of These Nights” -Eagles10. “Soak Up The Sun” -Sheryl Crow11. “When The Sun Goes Down” -Kenny Chesney12. Bonus: “Dark Side of the Moon” -Pink Floyd (entire album)

Last week I had the privilege of serving as the guest speaker at the Official Signing of the “Beauty Marks for Girls” (BM4G) Scholarship Fund held by The Spartanburg County Foundation (SCF) (the oldest community foundation in the state of South Carolina). BM4G is “a compassionate organization based in Spartanburg created to empower the lives of girls whose mothers are incarcerated.” BM4G was founded by Jennifer Jones - an incredible woman I’ve been blessed to get to know and now call friend thanks to shared goals, interests, and experiences. It was uplifting to be part of the event and spend time with my hometown colleagues. I appreciate every opportunity I am given to work with others who are authentic, mission-driven, and motivated to effect genuine change. Congratulations to Jennifer, the BM4G team, and the SCF! Stepping in and stepping up to facilitate positive outcomes for people who are in need is truly important to me. Thank you for including me and giving me a platform to share my personal story and celebrate this awesome philanthropic development to benefit young women for years to come. No better way to end my week last week than to have the opportunity to speak to a room of 300 women professionals on a panel alongside influential women of our community and to receive words of wisdom from incredible keynote speakers worthy of reverence! Thank you OneSpartanburg, Inc. for including me in your 2024 “Women in Business: PAVING THE WAY” event presented by my beloved undergraduate alma mater (Converse University) and ! Marjorie Boafo Appiah and Cindy Kelly’s keynote addresses were wonderfully received and I left the event with significant takeaways from my co-panelists DeAndria L. Hardy, Cheryl Lang, and Shelley Wildenstein. Nancy Whitworth served as the perfect moderator! So good to see her. Alison Hughey, MT-BC offered a mindfulness moment and Lauren Ansley kept us on our feet and laughing! Additionally, I got to see so many of my Converse sisters; childhood and community friends; extended family; and made new friends during the breakout/icebreaker portion. My heart was warmed to see Molly Duesterhaus after so many years…who witnessed and supported my pivot from planning to be a French teacher post-grad to deciding to apply to law school senior year. Finally, I give thanks for another chance to shout out my one and only mentor Kristi Harrington during the panel. Although she was not present at the event, the wisdom and lessons she instilled in me nearly 15 years ago as her law clerk continue to guide me through personal and professional pathways. She’s the best boss I’ll ever have and it’s a privilege to call her my true friend to this day. Eternal thanks to her for believing in me when I needed it the most and teaching me things no one else would. #oneSpartanburg #JWWFH #PavingTheWay #InternationalWomensDay2024

Thank you Victor Durrah, Jr. and BROTHERS RESTORING URBAN HOPE INC for the privilege of being honored with the 2024 “Philanthropist of the Year” Award at last night’s Annual Sneaker Ball Gala! I got a chance to wear one of my favorite pairs of Js (Go Dawgs!) to a formal event instead of heels; hang out with my mom, cousin, friends, and extended family; and celebrate my fellow honorees and numerous non-profits that received funding thanks to BRUH Mentor’s hard work! I genuinely appreciate being recognized. Both myself and J.W. Woodward Funeral Home have been and will continue to be proud supporters of Victor and his organization. He’s been heavy hitting in the community for the past 19 years…and counting! I’m so proud of you, Victor. I cannot say that enough. Huge thanks to you and your team. Call on me/us anytime.
